The challenge with email is being able to state something and not have the tone misinterpreted by the person reading the message.
Approximately 90% of human communication is non-verbal which consists of body language and tone of voice. Email allows us to deliver the content, which is only 10% of the entire message. I’ve learned that a person will interpret an email message in context to the mood they are in at the time that they read it. That’s why I tend to use smiley faces wherever I’m writing an opinion that could be interpreted different ways. :-)
Also, if I need to discuss something of a serious nature or express a strong opinion, I’ll meet with the other person face-to-face or on the phone.
